Lead: Ubisoft says no other Assassin’s Creed remake is in active development, closing the door, for now, on hopes that Black Flag Resynced would kick off a run of remade classics.
What happened
The statement came in Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Fall 2026 Update, a franchise roundup on the official Assassin’s Creed site dated October 29 and presented by head of content Jean Guesdon. In a section addressing remake requests, the publisher said Black Flag Resynced, its first-ever franchise remake, was a huge undertaking that required rebuilding old systems from scratch. It then said plainly that it has “no other Assassin’s Creed remake actively in development,” and that its teams are focused on new entries, including unannounced projects with new settings and stories. Ubisoft added that it still likes the idea of revisiting classic titles and will keep exploring options.
The same update covered the rest of the slate:
- Codename Invictus, the PvP multiplayer project, held a private Insiders Session with hundreds of players earlier this year. Ubisoft says feedback was positive but players wanted more of the series’ core pillars, so the game is being reworked in that direction.
- Codename Hexe, the darker single-player project, is making steady progress, with the next major update promised in 2027.
- Black Flag Resynced, which launched July 9, has received its final major content update, adding New Game+ and Nightmare Mode.
- Assassin’s Creed Valhalla gets New Game+ on November 5 after passing 40 million players.
- Netflix’s live-action series is nearing the end of production in Rome, and the franchise turns 20 in 2027, with anniversary plans still under wraps.
VGC, IGN, Polygon and GameSpot all reported the remake comments from the same official post.
Why the Assassin’s Creed remake answer matters
Black Flag Resynced landed well, and the obvious next ask from fans was the original Assassin’s Creed or the Ezio trilogy getting the same treatment. Ubisoft’s answer is a clear not now, and it is a telling one. Remakes are comparatively safe bets for a publisher in the middle of a long restructuring, yet Ubisoft is signaling that its development muscle is going into new games instead. The franchise’s leadership team, formed earlier this year under Martin Schelling, is framing the next stretch around consistency and lore rather than nostalgia.
The Invictus note is arguably the bigger tell. Saying playtesters wanted the game to lean harder on core Assassin’s Creed traits is a polite way of admitting the first prototype felt too generic. A course correction this early is healthy, but it also means fans should not expect the multiplayer game soon. Likewise, Hexe’s next update slipping into 2027 suggests a release is not imminent.
For players, the short version: the 20th anniversary year will be about new projects and updates to existing games, not a remade Altaïr or Ezio adventure.
What we know vs what is rumored
- Confirmed: Ubisoft says no other Assassin’s Creed remake is actively in development, but it has not ruled out remakes later.
- Confirmed: Hexe’s next major update is set for 2027; Valhalla New Game+ arrives November 5; Black Flag Resynced’s final major update is out.
- Unconfirmed: Release windows for Invictus or Hexe. Ubisoft gave none and warned that information about Invictus circulating online may be outdated or inaccurate.
- Unconfirmed: What the unannounced new-setting projects are, and when the Netflix series will premiere.
What happens next
The nearest concrete date is November 5, when Valhalla’s New Game+ update goes live, with patch notes and news on current-generation console updates promised in the coming days. Beyond that, Ubisoft plans more Invictus tests, a major Hexe update in 2027, and a year of 20th anniversary reveals starting in 2027. A new Community Survey is also live on the Assassin’s Creed site now.
