Shrek 2 Remastered Launches November 10, Nine Days Before GTA 6

Lead: Shrek 2 Remastered is officially real: Aspyr will release the 2004 co-op licensed game on November 10 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2, Switch, and PC, and it is promoting the date with a trailer that openly parodies GTA 6.

What happened

Aspyr revealed the game during the ID@Xbox x IGN showcase on Tuesday, October 20. According to Gematsu, DreamWorks Shrek 2 Remastered launches November 10, 2026, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, and PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store, priced at $29.99.

Pre-orders are already open. Xbox Wire says Game Pass members get up to 20% off a pre-order on Xbox Series X|S, while non-members get 10% off, through November 9. Nintendo Life reports the same 10% pre-order discount running until November 9.

The official description promises improved graphics and new features, including a Photo Mode and a Cheat Mode. The core game is unchanged in spirit: a button-mashing, squad-based action adventure across Far Far Away, from Shrek’s swamp to Fiona’s castle, played solo or with up to three friends in co-op. IGN lists Shrek, Fiona, Donkey, and Gingy among the playable characters.

The original Shrek 2 game was published by Activision in May 2004 on PlayStation 2, Xbox, GameCube, and PC, with a separate Game Boy Advance version. The remaster had already slipped out days earlier through an Xbox Store listing that was quickly pulled, and a GTA-style promo trailer circulated online before Tuesday’s official reveal.

Why Shrek 2 Remastered matters

On paper, this is a small re-release. In practice, it is the cheekiest bit of release-date marketing of the season. Grand Theft Auto 6 launches on November 19, and most publishers have cleared out of its way. Aspyr went the other direction: its reveal trailer borrows GTA 6’s Vice City look and even mocks up its own version of the GTA box art, then lands nine days before Rockstar’s game anyway.

The joke works because the game has genuine nostalgia behind it. Shrek 2 was one of the better movie tie-ins of its era, built around four-player couch co-op at a time when licensed games were usually rushed single-player cash-ins. A $29.99 price and a launch on every current platform make it an easy family pick in a crowded November.

It also confirms Aspyr’s current strategy. The studio has been steadily reviving older catalog titles on modern hardware, including recent Lord of the Rings and Middle-earth ports on Nintendo platforms. Those releases have drawn mixed reactions on polish, so the real test is whether this version runs cleanly at launch, not whether the trailer lands.

What we know vs what is rumored

  • Confirmed: November 10, 2026 release on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2, Switch, and PC (Steam, Epic), at $29.99.
  • Confirmed: pre-orders are live with discounts through November 9; Photo Mode, Cheat Mode, improved graphics, and co-op for up to four players.
  • Unconfirmed: whether online co-op is supported on every platform. The pulled store listing mentioned local and online play, per Nintendo Life, but the official description only says co-op.
  • Unconfirmed: performance targets, resolution, and frame rate on each console.

What happens next

Pre-orders run through November 9, and Shrek 2 Remastered launches November 10. GTA 6 follows on November 19. Expect platform-specific details, such as Switch 2 performance and online play support, to firm up in store listings and early coverage before launch day.
