Lead: Koei Tecmo has released an Attack on Titan 3 gameplay trailer that shows the Nine Titans as playable-against bosses for the first time, about five weeks before the game’s December 10 launch.
What happened in the Attack on Titan 3 gameplay trailer
Koei Tecmo America debuted the new Attack on Titan 3 gameplay trailer on Sunday, November 1. The game is developed by Omega Force, the Koei Tecmo team behind the earlier Attack on Titan action games, and it launches on December 10, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. That date was locked back in August, so the trailer is a marketing beat rather than a schedule change.
The publisher pitches the game as the closing chapter of its series. It covers the anime’s story from the Survey Corps days through the ending, rebuilds memorable scenes from the previous two games, and adds new story content. The headline gameplay addition is combat against the Nine Titans, which the series has never let players fight before.
Other confirmed features include an evolved version of the omni-directional mobility gear, Titans that move less predictably, an optional simple-control mode for players who are not confident with action games, and a new mode called Special Exterior Missions, where you lead a squad on missions outside the walls and decide when to push forward or fall back.
MAPPA, the studio that animated Attack on Titan: The Final Season, is producing an opening animation for the game. It will not be in the launch build; Koei Tecmo says it arrives in a later update.
Editions are already set. A Digital Deluxe Edition bundles a digital artbook, costumes, character creator parts, and item packs, and Koei Tecmo America’s August announcement said it also carries a 72-hour early access key. Physical buyers can get a launch SteelBook featuring ICONART artwork.
Why it matters
Attack on Titan’s anime wrapped in 2023, and new official material has slowed to stage shows, art books, and licensed games. That makes this the biggest interactive Attack on Titan release in years. Attack on Titan 2 launched in the West in March 2018, and its Final Battle expansion followed in 2019, which left the games stuck before the story’s final arc. A third entry that finally reaches the ending, with the Nine Titans as opponents, closes that gap.
The timing is tight, too. A December 10 launch puts the game into the busy holiday window, and the Switch 2 version gives Omega Force a platform the earlier games never had. The mobile spin-off Attack on Titan: Brave Order ended service on September 28, so console and PC players are the focus now.
The MAPPA opening is a smart hook for anime viewers, but shipping it after launch means early players will not see it on day one.
What we know vs what is rumored
- Confirmed: December 10, 2026 release on PS5, Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam; developed by Omega Force and published by Koei Tecmo.
- Confirmed: Nine Titans fights, full-story coverage, Special Exterior Missions, and a MAPPA opening coming in a post-launch update.
- Confirmed: Japanese voice acting only. Sources differ on text languages: Anime News Network lists nine, including Korean and both forms of Chinese, while Koei Tecmo America’s August release listed English, French, Italian, German, and Spanish.
- Unconfirmed: the date of the update that adds the MAPPA opening, and any post-launch story content beyond the opening.
What happens next
Pre-orders are open now, and the game launches on December 10. Digital Deluxe buyers should get access up to 72 hours earlier if the August edition details still hold. Expect Koei Tecmo to name a window for the MAPPA opening update closer to launch; we will update this story when it does.
