Lead: The Bloodthirsty Bride Devours the King anime is officially in the works for 2027, with director Mariko Iwazaki leading production at IMAGICA Infos and Imageworks Studio.
What happened with The Bloodthirsty Bride Devours the King anime
An official website for the TV anime opened on Monday, November 2, announcing that the series will air in 2027. The project adapts The Bloodthirsty Bride Devours the King (Chi ni Ueta Hanayome wa Ō o Kurau), a web manga written by Shiki and drawn by Yū Shinonome. The announcement came with a teaser illustration of the two leads, shared by producer en-dolphin.
The staff list announced so far:
- Director: Mariko Iwazaki (some databases romanize the name as Iwasaki)
- Animation production: IMAGICA Infos and Imageworks Studio
- Series scripts: Shiki, the original writer
- Producer: en-dolphin
- Sound director: Taeko Miura, at studio RD
- Music: Kujira Yumemi, whose credits include As a Reincarnated Aristocrat, I’ll Use My Appraisal Skill and Chillin’ in Another World With Level 2 Super Cheat Powers
- Production supervision: Kazuya Takahashi
The story is billed as a dark romantic fantasy set during a war. Kate, a princess-priestess who carries vampire power, agrees to a political marriage with Luka, the strongest king on the continent, to keep her homeland safe. On their wedding night the smell of his blood wakes her instincts, and the deal between them starts to look much less like a simple contract.
The manga runs on Japanese digital platforms such as honto. Its 29th chapter and fourth collected volume came out in October.
Why it matters
Vampire romance with a political-marriage setup is a crowded lane in manga and anime. This one stands out by leaning darker than most, with a heroine who is the dangerous one in the relationship rather than the one in danger.
The detail that stands out is Shiki writing the scripts personally. When the original author writes the scripts, it often means the adaptation sticks close to the source tone. For a story that depends on mood and tension between two leads, that is a good sign.
It is also a fairly young property. Four volumes in, the manga is a short read, so even a short first season could adapt a large share of it. There is no English edition of the manga yet, so for most overseas viewers the anime will be their first contact with the story. That also makes a streaming license worth watching for.
What we know vs what is rumored
- Confirmed: TV anime airing in 2027; IMAGICA Infos and Imageworks Studio animating; Mariko Iwazaki directing; Shiki writing scripts; en-dolphin producing.
- Confirmed: sound director Taeko Miura, composer Kujira Yumemi, and production supervisor Kazuya Takahashi.
- Unconfirmed: voice cast, premiere season or date, broadcaster, episode count, theme song artists, and any overseas streaming partner. None of these have been announced.
What happens next
The official website is live, so the next step is likely a cast reveal and a narrower premiere window. Studios usually pair those with a first teaser trailer. We will cover the voice cast, the season slot, and any English streaming deal once the committee announces them.
