Monster Hunter Rise 20 Million Sales Milestone Confirmed by Capcom

Lead: Monster Hunter Rise 20 million is now official, with Capcom confirming that the 2021 hunting game has passed 20 million units sold worldwide across every platform it has reached.

What happened

Capcom announced the milestone on October 6 through the official Japanese Monster Hunter Rise account on X, posting a commemorative illustration and a short message thanking players. The post also pointed out that the game is on sale at several digital stores, a fairly direct invitation for anyone who has not picked it up yet.

Gematsu notes that the last public figure for Rise was 19.3 million units, reported in June, so the game added roughly 700,000 units in three to four months. That is a steady pace for a title that is more than five years old.

Monster Hunter Rise launched on Nintendo Switch in March 2021 and reached PC via Steam in January 2022. It came to PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Windows and Xbox Game Pass in January 2023. The Sunbreak expansion followed on Switch and Steam in June 2022 and on the PlayStation, Xbox and Windows versions in April 2023.

For context, Nintendo Life points out that Capcom’s own platinum titles data lists Monster Hunter: World at 22.40 million base-game units as of June 30, 2026, still the series high.

Why the Monster Hunter Rise 20 million mark matters

Twenty million is rarefied air for any Japanese game, and Rise got there on a path that looked risky at launch: a Switch exclusive built on hardware far weaker than the PS4 and Xbox One that powered World. It became the game that proved Capcom could make a mainline Monster Hunter scale on Nintendo’s handheld first and multiplatform later, and the staggered ports plus a big paid expansion kept it selling long after the launch spike.

The timing is also handy for Capcom. Monster Hunter Wilds, which launched in February 2025 and sold over 8 million copies in its first three days, is the series’ current focus. It is heading to Nintendo Switch 2 on December 4, with the Ascendance expansion due in 2027. A fresh reminder that the last Switch-born Monster Hunter is one of Capcom’s biggest sellers is a neat bit of marketing ahead of a Switch 2 launch aimed at the same audience.

The bigger story is the long tail. Capcom has spent years turning older releases into steady earners through ports and frequent discounts, and Rise is a clean example of that strategy paying off. With World only about 2.4 million units ahead, Rise now has a realistic shot at becoming the best-selling Monster Hunter game if discounts keep it moving.

What we know vs what is rumored

  • Confirmed: Monster Hunter Rise has passed 20 million units sold worldwide, per Capcom’s official Monster Hunter Rise account.
  • Confirmed: The previous public figure was 19.3 million units, reported in June.
  • Confirmed: Monster Hunter Wilds comes to Switch 2 on December 4, and the Ascendance expansion is set for 2027.
  • Unconfirmed: Capcom has not shared a per-platform breakdown, a separate Sunbreak sales figure, or an updated Wilds total alongside this milestone.

What happens next

Capcom’s next quarterly results and platinum titles update should show how the 20 million figure splits against World and Wilds. On the release side, the next date to watch is December 4, when Monster Hunter Wilds lands on Switch 2 and tests whether the audience that carried Rise on Nintendo hardware shows up again.
