Lead: Kadokawa confirmed that I Got a Cheat Skill Season 2 will debut in January 2027, and released the first teaser video, key visual, new cast and returning staff for I Got a Cheat Skill in Another World on October 15.
What happened
On Thursday, October 15, Kadokawa rolled out the first full Season 2 package for the anime based on Miku’s light novel series (illustrated by Rein Kuwashima), whose Japanese title is often shortened to Iseleve. Anime News Network and Animate Times both carried the same reveal: a January 2027 broadcast and streaming window, a first key visual, a first promotional video, two new regulars, and a returning production core.
The new cast members are Ikumi Hasegawa as Iris Knowblade, the sword saint of the other world, and Sora Amamiya as Mai Kagurazaka, a shrine maiden from the real world who is summoned as a holy woman. Returning voices named in the announcement include Yoshitsugu Matsuoka as Yūya Tenjō, Akari Kitō as Kaori Hōjō, Kaori Maeda as Lexia von Arcelia, Ai Kakuma as Luna, Rina Hidaka as Yuti and Marina Inoue as Kuro.
Shin Itagaki returns as chief director at Millepensee, Hiromi Kimura returns on character design, and UNLIMITED PRODUCE by TMS is again listed for planning and production. New or expanded credits called out by ANN include compositing directors of photography Arimasa Omi and Kotonari Hoashi, plus SHIKI joining Akiyuki Tateyama on music. Art, color, CG, editing and sound staff from the first season also return in the published list.
The official Season 2 site frames the story as Yūya training with a newly gained “evil” power while stronger threats gather, and while Regal Kingdom prepares a match against its strongest sword saint. The first TV season ran for 13 episodes from April 2023; Crunchyroll streamed it with an English dub. Yen Press publishes the novels and manga in English, and ANN notes the franchise has about 4 million copies in circulation including spinoffs.
Why I Got a Cheat Skill Season 2 matters
Season 2 announcements with a firm month are rarer than vague “coming soon” teasers, and this one lands with a full cast and staff sheet instead of a logo card. That is useful for fans who bounced off the first cour and for newcomers deciding whether to catch up before winter 2027.
The casting also signals tone. Hasegawa’s Iris is pitched as a polished sword princess who falls for Yūya at first sight, while Amamiya’s Mai brings a real-world shrine-maiden design into the isekai cast. Together they widen the ensemble beyond the first season’s core and give the key visual its fresh faces. Animate Times notes Iris had already appeared with her back turned in an AnimeJapan 2026 teaser, so today’s front-facing art is the payoff.
For a how-to-draw audience, the Season 2 key visual is the practical takeaway: clean hero-group composition, contrasting school uniforms and fantasy armor, and strong silhouette work on Iris’s sword. It is a good study sheet even if you never watch the show.
