Zelda Switch 2 Restocks Coming After Nintendo Underestimated Demand

Lead: Zelda Switch 2 restocks are on the way, Nintendo Latin America boss Bill van Zyll says, after admitting the company underestimated demand for the Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition console that sold out on pre-order around the world.

What happened

Bill van Zyll, Nintendo’s vice president and general manager for Latin America, spoke with Rodrigo Coelho of the Brazilian YouTube channel Coelho no Japão at Brasil Game Show 2026. Coelho’s own site, Coelho News, published the exchange, and GamesRadar+ and Nintendo Life picked it up on October 19.

Van Zyll called the sell-out a global problem and apologized for it. He said the United States “did extremely well” and that pre-sales in Brazil had also hit their limit. Nintendo Life summarized the market he singled out as North America. His plainest line, as quoted by GamesRadar+: “We underestimated how well it would be received.”

On supply, he confirmed that Nintendo is working on replenishing the special hardware and software, and Coelho News quotes him listing the Pro Controller, the console and the software. He also said he could not give dates or quantities yet, that it would take some time, and asked fans to be patient.

According to GamesRadar+, the Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition Switch 2 launches on October 29. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Nintendo’s rebuilt version of the 1998 classic, follows on Switch 2 on November 5. We covered the remake’s latest overview trailer in our Ocarina of Time remake trailer report.

Why Zelda Switch 2 restocks matter

A special-edition console selling out is not unusual. A Nintendo executive saying on the record that the company misjudged demand is. It tells us Nintendo planned this hardware as a collector’s item for a 40th anniversary, while fans treated it as the main way to buy into Switch 2 for a remake of one of the most loved games in the series.

Timing is the other problem. The console arrives a week before Ocarina of Time and right before the holiday shopping season. Every week without stock pushes more buyers toward resale listings at inflated prices, or toward a standard Switch 2 instead. Nintendo Life notes that in Europe the edition has been coming in and out of stock at retailers, so these shortages are not limited to one region.

The Pro Controller is in the same situation. People who already own a Switch 2 and only want the themed controller face the same queues, and van Zyll’s comments confirm it is part of the restock plan rather than a one-time run.
