Lead: Nintendo’s new overview trailer for the Ocarina of Time remake reveals the Hall of Fallen Foes, a bestiary where Link can study defeated monsters and rematch bosses, three weeks before the game launches on Nintendo Switch 2 on November 5.
What happened
On Wednesday, October 14, Nintendo published a nearly five-minute overview trailer and a matching news post on Nintendo.com for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, its rebuilt version of the 1998 Nintendo 64 classic. The same day, hands-on previews went live at outlets including VGC and Nintendo Life.
The headline addition is the Hall of Fallen Foes. In the trailer narration, as quoted by Nintendo Insider, it is “hidden somewhere deep within Hyrule.” Statues of enemies you have beaten appear there with a description and the places they can be found. Boss statues let you start a rematch, and Siliconera and Polygon both note that the game times those fights, with King Dodongo shown as the example. Nintendo’s own written post calls the area the “Hall of Fallen Heroes,” while the trailer and every outlet we checked say “Foes.”
Nintendo also confirmed that you can hum a melody Link has learned, or play one on a real instrument, and the Switch 2 microphone will make Link’s ocarina respond. The post promises overhauled visuals, fully voiced cutscenes with expanded dialogue and full symphonic orchestral music. Anime News Network adds that the trailer shows traditional camera controls, motion controls, a dedicated jump button, a roll dash, a ZR item slot with a pop-up menu, a Threads of Time recap menu, and time passing in town.
The game supports Zelda Notes in the Nintendo Switch App, which ANN says includes a progress recap, Gossip Quests scavenger hunts and an Ocarina of Time quiz with more than 2,000 questions. Two new amiibo, Young Link and Young Zelda, arrive in 2027 and unlock in-game masks. Nintendo’s U.S. store lists the game at $59.99, and ANN notes the Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition Switch 2 console, matching Pro Controller and carrying case ship on October 29.
Why the Ocarina of Time remake matters
Ocarina of Time is the template for nearly every 3D action adventure that followed, so any remake carries the weight of a thousand “best game ever” lists. The question was never whether Nintendo could make it prettier. It was whether a modern version would add anything worth replaying for people who have finished it on N64, GameCube, 3DS and Switch Online.
The Hall of Fallen Foes is a smart answer. Polygon points out that the 2011 3DS remake already had a Boss Challenge mode, but a museum of every defeated enemy with timed rematches turns that bonus into a collection and speedrun hook. Combined with a real jump button, modern camera and item handling, the remake looks aimed squarely at fixing the friction that kept newer players away.
The microphone feature is the kind of gimmick that could be silly or charming. Nintendo clearly thinks it is the latter, since its news post lists an Electric Ocarina of Time accessory at $49.99 right alongside the game. It is a bold bet that people will want to hum Saria’s Song at their console in 2026.
What we know vs what is rumored

- Unconfirmed: whether Master Quest or any other bonus mode returns, the full list of rematchable bosses, and the exact name Nintendo will use in final store text.
What happens next
The Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition Switch 2 hardware and Pro Controller arrive on October 29, followed by the game itself on November 5. Full reviews should land in the days before launch. Further out, ANN reports the live-action Legend of Zelda film now opens on April 30, 2027, which keeps Hyrule in the spotlight well into next year.
