Lead: A new Cyberpunk Edgerunners 2 trailer and poster key visual arrived on October 14, giving the Studio TRIGGER and CD PROJEKT RED sequel one last big push before it premieres exclusively on Netflix on Tuesday, October 20.
What happened
Netflix released the trailer and a crowded new poster through its official social channels on Wednesday, as reported by Crunchyroll News and Anime Corner. Crunchyroll says the footage gives a fresh look at the central crew of Roman, D, Weak and Talia, along with a first look at a cluster of supporting characters. Final Weapon notes the trailer leans on the Blackwall and the Biochip, two threads that will be familiar to anyone who finished Cyberpunk 2077.
The official CD PROJEKT RED site now lists that wider cast. Avida, described as a former jazz singer and Weak’s old flame, is married to a Kang Tao executive named Kiril and is the mother of Talia. Sal runs Sal Bigelow’s Braindance Paradise, Jessie works there as a braindance engineer, and Kitano and Richard represent Arasaka and Kang Tao. Weak’s crew is filled out by Miguel, Emily and Meshuga. Japanese voices listed on the site include Kentaro Tone as Weak, Koki Uchiyama as D, Momoka Terasawa as Roman, Akari Kito as Talia, Akemi Okamura as Avida and Yasunori Matsumoto as Kiril. Final Weapon, citing Netflix, lists Clancy Brown, Nazeeh Tarsha, Kimoy Lee and Valeria Rodriguez as the English voices for Weak, D, Talia and Roman.
The staff is unchanged from earlier announcements. Kai Ikarashi directs at TRIGGER, Masahiko Otsuka handles series composition, Ichigo Kanno designs the characters and Tsuneo Imahori composes the music, with Bartosz Sztybor back as story writer and producer. The series is a standalone ten-episode story. The Cure’s 1978 song “10:15 Saturday Night” is the opening theme and Petite Meller’s “Watson” is the ending, a pairing first revealed at Anime Expo in July.
Why the Cyberpunk Edgerunners 2 trailer matters
The first Edgerunners was a rare adaptation that helped the source game. It launched in September 2022, won Anime of the Year at the 2023 Crunchyroll Anime Awards and is widely credited with sending players back to Night City. A sequel with a new cast, a new director and no Lucy or David is a real gamble, and this trailer is the studio’s last chance to sell that change before reviews and social media take over.
From what Netflix has shown, the bet is on a messier ensemble. Instead of one street kid, the story splits between a washed-up legend living without chrome, a nomad netrunner chasing revenge, a corpo-raised gang member and a cinephile filming the city. The new poster stacks a dozen faces into one frame, which says plenty about how the show wants to be read.
For artists, the key visual is worth studying on its own. Netflix described the sequel as having a reimagined animation style when it set the date in August, and Kanno’s designs keep TRIGGER’s bold shapes and flat color blocks while pushing harder on silhouettes, asymmetry and chrome detail. What happens next
The next milestone is the Netflix premiere on October 20. Netflix has not spelled out a weekly schedule in the materials we reviewed, so watch the service’s listing that morning. Outlets also disagree slightly on names, with Anime Corner using “Weak Kingsley” and “Talia Yang” while Crunchyroll and the official site mostly use first names only. Expect full cast pages and reviews to settle those details once the series is live.
